A game about falling. A pretty fun game I made for the 2018 Open Game Art Game Jam. I made it mobile-first and even use the accelerometer for controls if available. The game is pretty simple, you just avoid obstacles and the longer you survive the higher your score. There’s also health potions to heal and some power-ups. The enemes get faster and more numerous as you progress. See the code on GitHub:

This game was made in under a week, while I was still taking care of the kids and doing my regular work. I had a lot of fun making it, but boy was it a lot of work. And I didn’t even do the art! I used assets from Open Game Art, which was the entire point of the challenge.

The game is made with engo, which is a pretty cool game engine for Go. I had either just finished up 1.0 or was getting close to it when I did this. I had to write some custom Android and iOS code to get the accelerometer working, which was a fun challenge. Also, saving your high score was a bit of a pain because both Android and iOS have different ways of approaching the file system. Overall, I learned a lot from this project and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. I hope to do more game jams in the future, and maybe even make a full game at some point.
