I have been a maintainer and contributor to the engo game engine since 2016. Engo is an open-source, cross-platform, ECS game engine written in the Go programming language based on ’engi’. It supports multiple platforms including desktop, web (WebGL), and mobile (Android/iOS) through the use of OpenGL, WASM, and GoMobile.
My contributions to the Engo engine include:
- Fixed bugs and created new features using the Issue Tracker on github.
- Created and maintained CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions to automate testing and deployment.
- Improved performance and memory management of the engine.
- Added support for iOS and Android using GoMobile.
- Added support for WebGL first using GopherJS and later using WASM.
- Created and maintained sample games and demos to showcase the engine’s capabilities.
- Improved documentation and created tutorials to help new users get started with the engine.
- Added support for custom shaders using GLSL.
- Implemented a collision system by hand capable of handling multiple shapes and types.
- Created a particle system for creating visual effects like smoke, fire, and explosions.
- Developed an audio system for playing sound effects and music.
- Created a TMX library for working with TMX files in the go programming language.
- Added support for tilemaps using the TMX library.
- Implemented font rendering using ttf fonts using the freetype library.
- Improved the ECS architecture and added new systems and components regularly.
I really love this little game engine the community has helped build over the years, and I am really proud to be a part of it! I plan to continue my work on the engine and to use the engine in my own game projects in the future.
