Spirit Halloween!

Spirit Halloween opened today, so of course I took the boyos! We saw a lot of cool animatronics and props!

They finally make a lime-green jumping spider! My favorite color!

There were plushies from hazbin hotel.

My favorite new animatronics were the Carnival Creeper (based on an old animatronic called the Night Crawler)

and the Pumpkin Punisher!

This guy gives Lich from Adventure Time vibes.

Last but not least, this year’s big animatronic. FREDDY FAZBEAR!

It was pretty fun.

ISLR

After spirit I finished up the section about using splines as a basis set. Up next is how to choose the number of knots! I’ll be at the lab portion in no time!

Loco Moco

We made musabis for dinner, and since m is a musabi hog, we had loco moco for ourselves.

Play Outside

After dinner I went outside and played some with the kids. We played Among Us!

3d printing semiconductors

Then I started to read a paper about 3d printing semiconductors. Canda et al are exploring 3D printed logic gates by using a semiconductor-free method. Instead of the semiconductor effect used in typical digital electronics, these use the polymeric positive temperature coefficient effect instead to create electronic logic gates and resettable fuses. It’s a pretty cool mechanism: when the polymer is cold the intersitial conductive atoms can connect to form conductive paths in the medium. When the polymer goes through its glass transition phase, those conductive atoms get jostled around and the plastic gets in-between them, disrupting the paths of conductivity. This results in a sort of anti-transistor effect, where high current leads to high resistivity (whereas in the transistor effect, high current leads to conductivity). It’s a pretty cool effect, and I do want to buy some conductive filament to test some things out. It also had a lot of good papers linked to it in the bibliography, so even if I don’t do this exactly I want to do a lot of experiments with it.
