Day 1: A new bloggening

Welcome to my blog! This is my first post in a long time, and I hope to be the start of a trend. I’ve heard journaling regularly is good for mental stability, and I want to give it a try. Hopefully I’ll have interesting things to say!

So, let’s start with what I did today. We started the day a little later than we had hoped, so we didn’t get to Spark at all. Instead, we went drove around a bit. While driving, we found the exact toy that we were looking for for christmas! On sale! Within driving distance! It was pretty exciting. After that, we went home and I made lunch. I then played some video games (Mortal Kombat then Helldivers).

After that, I did some dishes and then I got dinner from Girard Wok. It was ok, but usually it is a lot better. I got chow mein with shrimp, but they were the fried ones, not the steamed ones. And the sauce was just too wet.

After that I started reading some of Newton’s Principia Mathematica. It’s actually pretty surprising that I haven’t actually read it before. I’ve read all kinds of physics and calculus and analytics books, but never the original. I did read Euclid’s “Elements” during my summer between Freshman and Sophomore year of college, and I always planned on getting around to it one day. So I’m finally starting! It’s pretty dense, but I think I’ll be able to get through it. One thing I’ve noticed is that Newton derives caculus from geometry, which is different from how it’s taught today. Today we start with limits and functions and then get to the geometric interpretations later, but Newton starts with geometry and derives the caculus from that. It’s an interesting approach.

Well, that’s about it for today. Hopefully I’ll have more to say tomorrow!
