Daily Blog - December 19, 2025

Today was a day off the job search and spent some quality time with Rob. After dropping Milo off at school, we went out Sparking for two orders and hung out in the car. We then stopped at Speedway for a few snacks and drinks for breakfast. After that we went to Target and got a couple christmas presents for the boys.

Portfolio Update: Food Chart in Blog Posts

I added a food chart to my blog posts to keep track of what I eat daily. This will help me monitor my diet and make healthier choices. I pass the food data as a list in the front matter of each blog post, and it gets rendered as a chart in the post.

Choosing the API

I plan on using the USDA food API for this project. It will fetch nutritional information for each food item, so I can track things like calorie and vitamin intake. This is a fun way to combine my love for food and coding, and it also helps me stay accountable for my eating habits.

After playing around with the API it’s actually pretty dificult to make searches so far that get what I need. I might have to go for UPC codes instead of food names to get more accurate results. So the frontmatter will have to have the food name, UPC code, and quantity. Right now I’m using the ; as a delimiter to separate the values in the food list.

Notes and Conclusions

This also reminds me: I should do a project / time tracker in my frontmatter as well. This will help me focus on the tasks and actually get projects done instead of just thinking about them.
